Maxis Router Login

192.168.0.1

Malaysia Huawei, ZTE, D-Link

Maxis Berhad provides Home Fibre broadband with speeds from 30Mbps to 2Gbps and 5G Home WiFi with unlimited data. Fibre routers use 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.254 depending on the model. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for all Maxis-supplied devices.

Maxis Berhad is one of Malaysia’s three major telecommunications providers. For home broadband, the provider offers two product lines: Home Fibre (wired fibre-to-the-home with speeds from 30Mbps to 2Gbps) and 5G Home WiFi (wireless broadband using a 5G CPE router with unlimited data). Both services include a router at no extra charge.

How to Login to Your Maxis Router

The provider supplies different router models depending on your plan and installation date. The login IP address varies by device.

For TP-Link, D-Link, and ZTE routers: Connect to your home network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. Open a browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Enter admin for both username and password. On the D-Link DIR-882, leave the password field empty if admin does not work.

For the RGW (Residential Gateway): Connect and go to 192.168.1.254. The username is administrator (not admin). The password is the router’s serial number printed on the device label.

If the page does not load, confirm you are on the provider’s network and not mobile data. Try typing the full URL with the http:// prefix. Check the sticker under your router for the correct gateway IP.

The WiFi 6 Certified Router is now the standard device for all new fibre installations. It carries WiFi Alliance certification and supports EasyMesh for pairing with mesh nodes. Older TP-Link and D-Link models remain active on existing subscriptions. The RGW is a Residential Gateway that combines modem and router functions, using 192.168.1.254 instead of the usual 192.168.0.1.

For the 5G Home WiFi service, the provider supplies a 5G CPE router that connects to the 5G or 4G network. Setup is plug-and-play: insert the SIM, plug in the power, and connect to the WiFi network printed on the device label.

All plans come with a 24-month contract for new signups. A WiFi 6 certified router is included free with every new installation. Voice service is available as an add-on at RM10/month with a free DECT phone for new customers. The ONT (modem) carries a lifetime warranty as long as you subscribe. The router carries a 24-month warranty.

Maxis 5G Home WiFi Plans

The 5G Home WiFi service is a wireless alternative for locations without fibre coverage or for subscribers who prefer a plug-and-play setup.

PlanMonthly PriceDataContract
5G Home WiFi 99RM99Unlimited 5G/4G, uncapped speeds12 or 24 months
5G Home WiFi 139RM139Unlimited 5G/4G, uncapped speeds12 or 24 months
5G Plus Home WiFi 159RM129 (first 24 months), RM159 afterUnlimited 5G/4G, uncapped speeds24 months

The 5G Plus plan includes a RM30/month rebate for the first 24 months (up to RM720 savings). All plans include a premium 5G CPE router at no extra charge. 5G coverage depends on your location. In areas without 5G, the router falls back to 4G LTE.

EasyMesh WiFi Coverage

The WiFi 6 Certified Router supports EasyMesh, a WiFi Alliance standard for mesh networking. If your home has dead zones or weak signal in distant rooms, you can add EasyMesh nodes to extend coverage.

EasyMesh node pricing:

  • RM12.50/month via Zerolution (installment plan)
  • RM299 one-time purchase

Each node pairs with the main router to create a single unified WiFi network. The system handles band steering and client roaming automatically. Existing mesh devices and DECT phones are compatible with the WiFi 6 router.

Older WiFi 4 (802.11n) and WiFi 5 (802.11ac) devices also work with the WiFi 6 router. The router is backward compatible, though those older devices will not benefit from WiFi 6 speeds.

Changing Your Maxis Wi-Fi Password and Network Name

The process depends on your router model. Here is the walkthrough for the most common models.

On TP-Link routers (Archer VR2100v, AX1500):

Log in at 192.168.0.1. Click Wireless in the left menu. You will see tabs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) and Password or WPA Pre-Shared Key fields for both bands. Use at least 12 characters. Click Save.

On the RGW:

Log in at 192.168.1.254. Username is administrator, password is the serial number on the label. Find the Wireless or WLAN section. Update the SSID and password fields. Click Apply.

All connected devices will disconnect after you save. Reconnect each device with the new credentials. For a full walkthrough, check our Wi-Fi password change guide.

Using Your Own Router with Maxis Fibre

The fibre service is simple when bringing your own router. Most residential plans use DHCP behind the ONT, so the setup is simpler than TM Unifi which requires PPPoE and VLAN tagging.

Steps:

  1. Disconnect the supplied router from the ONT (the small white box on the wall).
  2. Connect your own router’s WAN port to the ONT’s LAN port 1 using an ethernet cable.
  3. Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP (also called Dynamic IP or Automatic).
  4. Restart both the ONT and your router.
  5. Your router should pick up an IP address and connect automatically.

No VLAN tagging and no PPPoE credentials are needed when connecting your own router behind the ONT on standard residential plans. If your connection does not come up after 5 minutes, power cycle the ONT by unplugging it for 30 seconds.

Note: if you have the RGW (Residential Gateway) instead of a separate ONT, it uses PPPoE internally. You can set the RGW to bridge mode and then connect your own router behind it with DHCP.

Popular router choices among subscribers: Asus RT-AX86U, TP-Link Archer AX73, or the Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Router.

Troubleshooting Maxis Router Issues

Here are the most common problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Make sure you are connected to the provider’s network. Disable mobile data on your phone. Try both 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.254 since the IP depends on your router model. Check the sticker on the device for the correct address. If you changed the router’s LAN IP before, reset the router to factory defaults.

  2. Password rejected. Technicians sometimes set a custom password during installation. For the RGW, the password is the serial number, not “admin”. Check the label. For TP-Link and D-Link models, try admin/admin or admin/(blank). If nothing works, factory reset using the pinhole button on the back (hold 10-15 seconds).

  3. Connected but no internet. Power cycle the ONT first. Unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 2-3 minutes. Check your account for outstanding bills at maxis.com.my or call 123. Verify that the ONT shows solid green lights for Power, LOS, and PON indicators.

  4. Wi-Fi keeps dropping. Update your router firmware through the admin panel. On the TP-Link VR2100v, go to System Tools > Firmware Upgrade. Try changing the Wi-Fi channel since auto-channel sometimes picks congested channels in apartment buildings. Channels 1, 6, or 11 on 2.4GHz tend to work best.

  5. Slow Wi-Fi but fast on cable. Move the router away from walls, microwaves, and Astro decoders. Use the 5GHz band for devices within line of sight. For distant rooms, add an EasyMesh node or consider the Max WiFi by Maxperts managed service.

  6. 5G Home WiFi slow speeds. Place the 5G CPE router near a window on the highest floor. Check the signal indicator on the device or admin panel. If you are on 4G fallback instead of 5G, move the router to a spot with better 5G coverage. Peak-hour congestion (8-11PM) also affects wireless speeds.

Test your Maxis connection

After logging into your router, run a speed test to confirm Maxis is delivering the throughput your plan promises. The widget below uses M-Lab's open NDT7 protocol — see the full speed test page for details on how the measurement works.
